PolicyPak for offline PC

Post  ralph001 on Tue Oct 08, 2013 10:52 am

Hi,

we are using PolicyPak for our Domain PC.

Now, we would set up a teleworker pc same as the domain pc. The teleworker pc is a member of the domain. After the deploying and set up the teleworker pc have no connection to the domain. The teleworker pc will use with a local pc user.

The issue is, that we would like the settings from policy pak also are working on the teleworker pc for the local pc user.

How we can do that?

Thx.

My quick answer...

Post  jeremym on Tue Oct 08, 2013 11:44 am

Without having tested it end to end... would be:

1. First: Ensure the computer gets the PP licensing information before the computer goes offline. Note that there are two ways a computer can get the PP license:
a) Via GPOs: If you choose this method, the computer will have to re-connect "next year" to get the next license when you update your license in the domain.
b) Via file: If you choose this method, you must update the computer's license file by hand or by MSI. See the manual for more details on this.

2. Second: Without testing it, I'm pretty sure you can simply dictate the settings you want on the COMPUTER side, and those settings will affect ALL USERS, including local / non-domain users.

It needs testing, and I'm not set up to do it immediately.

If you test it end-to-end this way, and it fails to work, let me know. This might not be a fully supported configuration; but... let's see if it happens to work the way I've described.

Question

Thank you for the quick response.

So do you have a link to the manual where it is decribed how I can update the computer's license file by MSI.

I think it is different to this:

Thank you very much!

Actually, you're on the right track.

That *IS* the right video. :-)

And we also express how to do it on page 115 in the current (Build 557) manual in the section

"Automatically placing XMLData and License files on target computers (using
PolicyPak Exporter)".

What you do is "Add Existing Files" then pick a licensing file like this: http://screencast.com/t/jCaUIZDeLy

Then.. that's it.

LMK if Qs !

Thanks !
